Morocco’s Late Surge Secures Historic Arab Cup Victory

Morocco sealed the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025™ title with a dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over Jordan at Lusail Stadium, completing a memorable night of football in Doha. The final, played on Thursday evening, brought the curtain down on another landmark chapter in Qatar’s hosting of major FIFA tournaments.

The Atlas Lions struck early as Oussama Tannane stunned the crowd with an extraordinary long-range goal from inside his own half within the opening minutes. Morocco controlled much of the contest with their trademark defensive discipline, having conceded just once throughout the tournament prior to the final.

Jordan mounted a spirited comeback in the second half through Ali Olwan, the competition’s leading scorer, who netted twice late on to turn the match in his side’s favour. With the trophy seemingly slipping away, Abderrazak Hamdallah emerged as the decisive figure, scoring a late equaliser to force extra time before adding a dramatic winner in the 100th minute.

The victory added another historic achievement to Morocco’s growing legacy in Qatar, following their groundbreaking semi-final run at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. The triumph also highlighted the strength of African football in a tournament that featured 16 teams from across Africa and Asia, all competing in six stadiums previously used during the 2022 World Cup.

Coinciding with Qatar National Day, the final capped a vibrant two-month period of elite football in the country, which also included Paris Saint-Germain lifting the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025™ and Portugal claiming the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025™ title.
