The international football calendar for early 2026 has gained further clarity after FIFA released the official match schedule for the FIFA Series 2026.
The tournament will take place during the March and April international match window and will involve 48 national teams from across the globe. Teams from all six confederations will participate, making it one of the most diverse international friendly initiatives on the calendar.
A total of 12 groups have been formed, each consisting of four teams. Nine groups will feature men’s national teams, while three groups will include women’s national sides. Eleven FIFA Member Associations will host the matches, with Rwanda hosting two separate groups.
The format of competition will vary by group. Some will follow a semi-final and final structure, while others will be played through pre-arranged fixtures. Any match that ends in a draw will go directly to a penalty shoot-out, with no extra time played. One team from each group will finish as group winner.
Originally approved by the FIFA Council in December 2022, the FIFA Series was introduced to create more meaningful international friendly opportunities, particularly between teams from different confederations that rarely meet in regular competition.
The 2026 edition follows the pilot tournament held in 2024 and represents a continued effort to expand competitive exposure for both emerging and established football nations.
All matches will be broadcast globally, ensuring fans worldwide have access to the fixtures and increasing visibility for participating national teams.
With the full schedule now confirmed, preparations will intensify as national sides gear up for a busy international window in early 2026.
