PSG Edge Flamengo in Shootout to Lift FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025

18, December 2025– Paris Saint-Germain defeated Flamengo on penalties to win the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025™ presented by Aramco, becoming the first French club to win a FIFA competition.

The final finished 1–1 after extra time at Al Rayyan. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead in the 38th minute after converting a low cross from Désiré Doué. Flamengo equalised in the 62nd minute through Jorginho from the penalty spot following a foul by Marquinhos.

Both teams created chances during regular time and extra time, but neither was able to find a winning goal. The match was decided by a penalty shootout, which PSG won 2–1. Goalkeeper Matvei Safonov saved the decisive penalty from Luiz Araújo.

Flamengo ended the tournament with two titles after winning the FIFA Derby of the Americas and the FIFA Challenger Cup earlier in the competition. The Brazilian side had arrived in Qatar as CONMEBOL Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro Série A champions.

The victory completed a successful year for PSG, adding the Intercontinental Cup to their UEFA Champions League title. Head coach Luis Enrique also received The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2025 award during the tournament period.

The final marked the conclusion of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025, the second of three major FIFA tournaments hosted by Qatar in November and December 2025.
